Thanks to a generous grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, together with funds raised by our own congregation and supporters, we have been able to undertake a major refurbishment of St James’ Community Hall.

The project has transformed the hall into a brighter, more welcoming and more versatile community space for local groups, organisations and residents to enjoy for many years to come.

To celebrate the completion of the work, we are holding an Open Day on Saturday 13 June from 10.00am until 4.00pm, and everyone is warmly invited to come along, look around and see the improvements for themselves.

The refurbishment has included the complete replacement of flooring in three rooms, the installation of a new semi-commercial kitchen, and the creation of a much-needed new store room. Five windows that had previously been boarded up have been reopened, allowing far more natural light into the building, and fitted with new double-glazed units. In addition, the refurbished areas have been fully redecorated throughout.

Refreshments will be available during the day, and members of the church and hall management team will be on hand to welcome visitors and answer questions about the facilities and future plans for the hall.

We are extremely grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund and to everyone who has supported this project and helped make these improvements possible.

St James the Great Darlington

150th Anniversary

The parish church of St James the Great was consecrated by the then Bishop of Durham on 30 August 1876.  This means that in one years' time, we will be celebrating our 150th Anniversary!

Initial considerations are being made as to how we might celebrate this auspicious occasion.  Read more here as to how you may become involved.
